Ecolabels usually cover a wide range of environmental impacts, across the lifetime of a product, from production and use through to disposal. Some, like the European Ecolabel, shown below, apply to many different types of product.
This is an official Europe-wide award for non-food products that minimise impacts on the environment. Products must be independently certified, and have to meet strict criteria for all the main environmental impacts across their whole life cycle.
In the UK products with the Flower label include household cleaners, kitchen rolls, toilet tissue, paints and televisions.
Some countries or areas also have national ecolabel schemes, like the Nordic Swan in Scandinavia and the Blue Angel in Germany, shown here.
